The Parcel

Chocolate Muffins, plenty of expiry date on
Dried custard powder, just add hot water to pour upon
Boiled sweets, choc chip cookies, your favourite I know
Those cookies hard currency, out there I am told
Hot chocolate sachets to warm you at night
A pair of sunglasses as the days are so bright
Nuts and dried fruit to keep your energy up
Instant mash sachets you can easily cook
Dried noodles, deoderant an unread book
A letter of hope, sending love and good luck
The shoe box is weighed, not too heavy I hope
And sealed tightly with love, this is how I cope
Six months in dry desert, cheating death every day
Fighting for your country, I worry, I pray
For your safe return home, my hero, my son
These parcels keep me going, until your war is done.

Re: The Parcel

Hi Brenda,

What a lovely poem which is full of feeling & so very down to earth it will twang many thoughts & heartstrings for others with their loved ones away. :D I know exactly how you feel being the Mum of 2 soldiers. I can breathe now that they have both retired from the service. So big hugs to you. I hope this site has helped you out. Do come & natter in the chatroom. I look forward to you popping in. :D

Big hugs

Judith xx
